Japanese Woodblock Prints by Ando HIROSHIGE

Ando HIROSHIGE is a legendary Japanese Ukiyo-e artist whose works were considered as the masterpiece of that tradition. His both horizontal-format landscape series and vertical-format landscape series were very famous. The themes which he depicted in his artwork were inspired by atypical of the Ukiyo-e genre. This genre briefly focused on beautiful women, famous actors and the scenes portraying the urban pleasure district of Japan's Edo period (1603–1868). Hiroshige woodblock prints have a poetic and ambient theme. A subtle color composition with multiple impressions was used in the making of the prints. Besides, labor-intensive techniques like bokashi were also used.
