This genre briefly focused on beautiful women, famous actors and the scenes portraying the urban pleasure district of Japan's Edo period (1603–1868). Hiroshige woodblock prints have a poetic and ambient theme. A subtle color composition with multiple impressions was used in the making of the prints. Besides, labor-intensive techniques like bokashi were also used.
